Did you know there are now 2 varieties of the Australian Kelpie?
The original working kelpie still exists on properties today, doing what it does best. The Working Kelpie is an amazing dog, and stories of it's feats are legendary. Many years ago, the 'show' or 'bench' kelpie came about after showies decided they wanted to produce their kelpies just for the confirmation ring. While this has caused some friction between the breeders, the Show Kelpie seems to be finding its place in suburbia, and has become an excellent companion and performance dog. The Show Kelpie tends not to be as highly strung as its working cousin, which can make them easier to have around. Although our Show Kelpies can retain some working ability (some more than others), if you are after a kelpie for working your property, then it is recommended you contact a breeder of Working Kelpies.
